Question by pottergirl16: How do I watch my dvd player with Direct tv?
My tv is old, and only has one set of plugs (which the direct tv reciever is plugged into). The direct tv runs off of the “video” setting on my tv, which is where the dvd player used to opperate out of. So I plugged my dvd player into the direct tv box, but can’t get into the right imput mode (or something) to watch my dvd. Any suggestions?

Try a Video Switch.
Go to Radio Shack and ask.
Be sure the Video Inputs and Outputs are compatible, like Composite, S-Video, etc.
You connect the Video Out from your DVD and from the DirecTv box to the Switch. Then you need a cable to go from the Switch to the TV.

Question by Momin2005: What type of format does my dvd player need to accept?
I need a new dvd player. However, before I buy one I need to be sure that it will play the mini dvd’s that my camcorder makes. What format do I have to look for on the specs?

i think almost any dvd players of today are able to play mini dvds. try checking your pc dvd drive for example, do you see a small circular spot in the middle of the disc tray? if you can find that in a disc tray of a regular dvd player, that means it can play mini dvds. your camcorder formats a recorded video to play on a dvd player, so it should be ok.

If this is just a regular display monitor with an extra video input, you can’t just plug in a GPS. You could plug in a computer that connects to a GPS and runs navigation software, but that’s *way* more than $ 250.

I have a friend who didn’t buy the nav option in her new car and later on wished she had. We found a car like hers that had been totalled and bought the nav system out of the wreck from the junkyard for $ 200. One long weekend later, she had the nav system on the car’s screen without having spent a fortune.

Unless you can find a creative way to upgrade or replace what you have, you’ll have to spring for the separate GPS. I prefer that anyway, because you can then use it in other vehicles.
